Your Touch is Unhinging

Steve Toth

Your touch is unhinging
Your eyes express such joy
it makes me forget there’s nothing to fear
The starling flock in my heart is now aflutter
How can you still be dealing me hands
when you’ve already cleaned me out?
You’ve even got me seeing the strangeness
right here in the living room
since you altered my vision with a look

What chance does a solitary star have
against a whole sky full of darkness?
A pretty good one if it’s the sun you are
& this is your solar system
Plug me into your power source
Where thoughts go energy follows
Shattered things don’t just go back
the way they were do they?
Listen while I crash my waves for you

Why didn’t I know there would be such discoveries?
Come let me dig you further
How can I always be in your presence?
You cleared a way when you told me:
“If it wasn’t for this wall
we wouldn’t be needing a window
& if not for this window
I wouldn’t be drawing these curtains aside”
Then you opened me for good

Box of Rain

Song Lyrics on Allspirit

Grateful Dead

Words by Robert Hunter; music by Phil Lesh

Look out of any window
any morning, any evening, any day
Maybe the sun is shining
birds are winging or
rain is falling from a heavy sky –
What do you want me to do,
to do for you to see you through?
this is all a dream we dreamed
one afternoon long ago
Walk out of any doorway
feel your way, feel your way
like the day before
Maybe you’ll find direction
around some corner
where it’s been waiting to meet you –
What do you want me to do,
to watch for you while you’re sleeping?
Well please don’t be surprised
when you find me dreaming too

Look into any eyes
you find by you, you can see
clear through to another day
I know it’s been seen before
through other eyes on other days
while going home —
What do you want me to do,
to do for you to see you through?
It’s all a dream we dreamed
one afternoon long ago

Walk into splintered sunlight
Inch your way through dead dreams
to another land
Maybe you’re tired and broken
Your tongue is twisted
with words half spoken
and thoughts unclear
What do you want me to do
to do for you to see you through
A box of rain will ease the pain
and love will see you through

Just a box of rain –
wind and water –
Believe it if you need it,
if you don’t just pass it on
Sun and shower –
Wind and rain –
in and out the window
like a moth before a flame

It’s just a box of rain
I don’t know who put it there
Believe it if you need it
or leave it if you dare
But it’s just a box of rain
or a ribbon for your hair
Such a long long time to be gone
and a short time to be there

Close the Language-Door

By Rumi

There is some kiss we want
with our whole lives,
the touch of Spirit on the body.

Seawater begs the pearl
to break its shell.

And the lily, how passionately
it needs some wild Darling!

At night, I open the window
and ask the moon to come
and press its face against mine.
Breathe into me.

Close the language-door,
and open the love-window

The moon won’t use the door,
only the window.
