Khalil Gibran, or Kahlil  Gibran, the Lebanese artist, poet, and writer was born on January 6, 1883 in the town of Bsharri in what is now  Lebanon.

He moved as a young man with his family to the United States, studied art and began his literary career writing in both English and Arabic. His book The Prophet,  written in poetic English prose, is his most widely known book in the English speaking world. An inspirational writer, his work is still very popular in both Arabic and English.
