Two poems from St. Augustine

Augustine of Hippo, commonly known as St. Augustine, was born in what is now Algeria in 354. Raised by a devout Christian mother and a father who converted to Christianity on his death bed, Augustine ignored the Christian church for a period and lived a hedonistic lifestyle. It was during this period he uttered his famous prayer,

“Grant me chastity and continence, but not yet.”

Augustine converted to Christianity in 386, and worked tirelessly in trying to convince the people of Hippo to convert to Christianity. He died in 430  aged 75 .
