Vietnamese Zen Buddhist monk Thich Nhat Hanh was born in 1926 and is a teacher, peace activist and author of more than 100 books, more than 40 of which are published in English. In addition to using teachings from various Zen traditions, Thich Nhat Hanh has also drawn on other teachings from both Mahayana and Theraveda Buddhism as well as using Western psychology. In addition to his Buddhist teachings, he has also authored many poems.

Thich Nhat Hanh is credited with coining the phrase Engaged Buddhism, which stresses the need for practitioners to actively engage in the community. He resides at the community he founded in France, Plum Village.
