A great influence on Turkish literature, Yunus Emre was a Turkish poet and Sufi mystic. Emre was born in 1240? He was one of the first poets to have composed in the spoken Turkish of his era and region rather than in Persian or Arabic and would sing his songs in the Turkish language of the common people.
The content of Emre’s poetry is concerned with divine love and human destiny.
Emre dies circa 1321, and not a lot more is known about his life.
